What is Botox?
Botox is an injectable medication that temporarily improves the appearance of forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet. It is formulated from a carefully controlled volume of a neurotoxin called Clostridium botulinum.
When injected into targeted facial muscles, Botox works to prevent those muscles from going through their full range of motion. That means they won’t be able to pull and tug your skin into lines, folds, and wrinkles, but you can still make normal facial expressions.
What happens during Botox treatments, and how long do results last?
Botox treatments only take a few moments to complete at Global Dermatology. Dr. Poulos places several injections in the treatment area using a thin, sterile needle.
You may feel a slight pinch as the needle enters your skin, but there is no significant pain. You don’t need any advance preparation or recovery time.
It takes around 24-48 hours for the results to develop. You can expect those results to last around four months, at which time you begin to notice your lines and wrinkles slowly returning. At that point, you can decide if you’d like to come in for another round of treatments to extend your results.

Dermal fillers are another type of injectable cosmetic treatment. Most fillers contain a synthetic form of hyaluronic acid, a substance your body produces naturally.
